Conroe is getting a fresh new outdoor activity this spring. The city is building a free, lighted archery range at Owen Park, and construction should wrap up in about 30 to 60 days.

Leaders say the goal is simple. Give families and young people a chance to try something new. The range will also host nighttime events, and the returning R100 archery tour in April is expected to bring hundreds of archers back to town.

A plan to build a 160-foot cell tower near Rivershire homes has stalled after Conroe City Council chose not to move forward. The tower would have been placed in a residential area, which drew strong concern from nearby residents during a public hearing.

Council members agreed better cell service is still needed, especially in Grand Central Park, but they want the company to find a different location outside neighborhoods before moving ahead.

A disagreement between Willis ISD and the City of Conroe has finally been resolved. The two sides agreed on a 1.8 million plan to fund water and sewer service for several school campuses, including Calfee Middle School.

The council meeting grew tense during the discussion, and police cleared the chambers after an argument between council members. Even so, the agreement moved forward, and the long-running issue is now settled.

Mr Taco and Tequila Bar on Hwy 105 served up a very filling meal during this visit. I tried the Mariachi Tacos after seeing strong online reviews and added a side of rice. The plate came with five chicken fajita-style tacos on corn tortillas and a helping of charro beans, and there was plenty of food from the start. The charro beans stood out right away with a smoky flavor that I really enjoyed.

The tacos were packed with chicken, fajita peppers, and onions. The chicken had a great texture and seemed well seasoned, though it could have used a bit more flavor. Adding salsa helped bring everything together. The extra rice was excellent and a great add-on to the meal. Overall Score: 8.1/10.

The Habitat for Humanity MCTX ReStore in Conroe just celebrated 10 years of serving the community. The shop sells donated furniture, appliances, and home items, and the money raised helps fund local homebuilding and repair projects.

Leaders say the impact can be seen across Montgomery County, including the Cedar Creek neighborhood and the Marble Creek project in Magnolia. Every donation, purchase, and volunteer hour helps support families working toward stable housing.

The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber is welcoming a new board member this month. Sarah McClure works as Director of Economic Development and Community Programming for the City of Oak Ridge North, where she focuses on supporting local businesses and community growth.

She also serves on the Leadership Montgomery County Board and The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership Board and is known for her strong commitment to volunteer work and community programs.

Texas A&M men’s tennis earned a solid 4 to 0 win over UCSB in Waco at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Aggies grabbed the doubles point early and kept the momentum going in singles play.

Alex Frusina clinched the match with a ranked victory, while Lathan Skrobarcek and Markus Molder added straight set wins. Texas A&M returns home next to open conference play against Ole Miss on Feb. 21.

Texas A&M baseball wrapped up opening weekend with a strong 7 to 1 win over Tennessee Tech, finishing the series with a sweep and a 3 and 0 start to the season.

Aiden Sims delivered six solid innings on the mound, and the offense stayed hot with big performances from Caden Sorrell and Wesley Jordan. The Aggies now turn their focus to Tuesday’s game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Texas A&M women’s basketball earned a big home win Sunday night, beating Auburn 81 to 63 at Reed Arena. The game was tight early, but the Aggies pulled away before halftime and never looked back.

Fatmata Janneh and Ny Ceara Pryor both recorded double-doubles, and four Aggies scored in double digits. The team stayed perfect from the free-throw line and now turns its attention to a road game at Tennessee on Thursday.

One of Lake Conroe’s most charming and impressive landmarks is getting close to its 50th birthday. The Harbor Town Lighthouse was built around 1977 and is still cared for by the residents who live nearby.

The lighthouse helps guide boaters on the lake and has quite a story. After lightning and a tornado damaged it in 1999, the community came together to raise money and rebuild it. Today, it still shines as a familiar sign that home is close.
