CONROE AREA NEWS

MOCO Sheriff’s SWAT Makes Major Arrests

Last week, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Operators helped arrest several wanted fugitives as part of their work with the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

The people arrested were wanted on serious charges, including stalking, sexual assault of a child, family violence assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of child pornography, and other felony charges. The Sheriff’s Office said all suspects were taken into custody without incident and brought to the Montgomery County Jail. The agency also praised its SWAT Operators and its long partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service for helping keep local communities safe.

Thank you to our Sheriff’s Office! You are appreciated.

Conroe Approves $1.87M for Public Works Equipment

Conroe City Council approved $1.87 million in heavy equipment purchases last week to help support the city’s public works operations. The list includes dump trucks, an excavator, a street sweeper, a jet truck, and an asphalt patch truck.

City staff said most of the equipment was chosen through the lowest bid. For two items, the city picked the second-lowest bid because of better support, local access, easier maintenance, and fewer repair concerns.

AROUND THE METRO

Eight Students Rescued From Galveston Roller Coaster

A senior trip to Galveston turned scary Thursday when the Iron Shark roller coaster at Pleasure Pier stopped about 100 feet in the air. Eight Houston ISD students were stuck on the ride while classmates watched from below.

Galveston crews used a ladder truck to rescue each rider. It took about four hours, but all eight were brought down safely with no injuries. Officials said the students were shaken up and checked for dehydration. Pleasure Pier said the ride stopped after a malfunction, and an inspection is underway.

9/11 Steel Across America Tour Stops in Houston

A 16,900-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center made a powerful stop at Space Center Houston on Sunday as part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Steel Across America tour. The visit included bagpipes, an honor guard, American flags, and a blessing of the steel.

The tour is helping families and young people understand the meaning of 9/11, 25 years later. Houston was the only local stop, and visitors also saw the foundation’s mobile 9/11 exhibit, built to honor those lost and the first responders who served.

THE SPORTS REPORT

Houston Gets Ready for a Huge World Cup Moment

Houston is getting ready for a soccer moment the city has never seen before. With seven FIFA World Cup matches coming to town, HTX Soccer’s Randy Evans said fans can expect huge crowds, strong team pride, and visitors from around the world.

The tournament will also bring big storylines, from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to high hopes for Team USA. Evans said the best way to understand the World Cup is to experience it in person, with fan events and watch parties adding to the excitement.

Try to attend fan fest events if you can.  This is a once in a lifetime event for most of us.

Astros’ Tatsuya Imai Shows Strong Late May Progress

Tatsuya Imai gave the Astros a strong outing Sunday, even though Houston lost 2-0 to the Brewers at Daikin Park. After a rough start to his first season with the team, Imai looked more comfortable, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on three hits.

The right-hander said he is starting to pitch more like he did in Japan. Over his last three starts, he has allowed five runs in 16 2/3 innings. For an Astros team that played better late in May, Imai’s progress is a good sign.

THANKS!

🏗️ That’s it for today, Conroe. Stay safe, stay sharp, and start the week off strong today!
