🚔 Montgomery County detectives say they have arrested a Porter man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run on U.S. Highway 59. Investigators say 35-year-old Jeremy Michael Buckner was taken into custody Saturday after they spent days working to identify the suspect in the crash that killed Gary Belvin.

Officials believe Belvin was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The sheriff’s office said detectives and crime scene investigators worked the case step by step to gather evidence and make the arrest. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said he hopes the arrest brings at least a small measure of peace to the Belvin family.

🏛️ Montgomery County’s jail is back in compliance, which is a good step forward, but the bigger jail story is far from over. Sheriff Wesley Doolittle told commissioners the facility had been failing inspections when he took office, and said changes inside the sheriff’s office helped bring it back up to standard.

Even so, county leaders are still dealing with a bigger question: what to do about an aging jail in a fast-growing county. Doolittle said the office is managing 1,317 inmates and making changes in medical care, mental health support, and new technology while officials look at long-term options.

😟 What happened at Harwin and Hillcroft on Friday sounds like something out of a movie. Videos shared online show a gray SUV crashing into several vehicles, including a police car, before speeding through the intersection and slamming into more cars in Houston’s Mahatma Gandhi District.

The aftermath looked just as upsetting. Another video showed Houston police taking a man into custody while adults comforted a child sitting on the ground nearby. It was a chaotic scene with wrecked cars, shaken people, and a lot for witnesses to take in.

Disney’s fingerprints are in more of Houston than many people realize. From helping shape AstroWorld to building the airport subway at IAH, Disney Imagineers played a quiet but important role in some of the city’s most memorable places.

That story even reaches Space Center Houston, where Disney-style storytelling helped bring space history to life. It is a fun reminder that Houston’s story is full of surprises, and sometimes the most interesting local history is hiding in plain sight.

The Houston Dynamo gave fans a big road win Sunday night, beating Los Angeles FC 4-1. Jack McGlynn scored once in each half, and Houston never let up. Guilherme added a goal in the first half, and Mateusz Bogusz scored early in the second as the Dynamo pulled away.

It was the kind of win that can give a team real momentum. Houston also got five saves from Jonathan Bond and improved to 6-5-0 on the season. The Dynamo are back on the road Wednesday for a match at Real Salt Lake.

The Astros may be getting a boost soon. Manager Joe Espada said shortstop Jeremy Peña is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week as he works back from a right hamstring strain. He ran the bases Saturday in Cincinnati, felt good Sunday, and is set to run again Monday.

If all goes well, Peña could return to game action Tuesday or Wednesday. That would be welcome news for Houston, especially after Carlos Correa’s season-ending ankle injury. Peña could also slide back into the leadoff spot once he returns.
