⭐ Attention: Free Advertising for Local Businesses!

You may have noticed that we have been testing advertising. I’ve been using my bookkeeping business as the guinea pig and visits to its website have significantly increased.

We will be selecting a few local small business advertisers to receive a considerable amount of free advertising in multiple issues of one to four of our local newsletters (Houston, Conroe, Pearland, Sugar Land).

The free advertising will be a combination of story-style ads with a photo and internet links, and digital banner-type ads with a couple supporting sentences about your business and internet links. If you have a local small business, let’s have a conversation. You can email us at [email protected].

We are specifically looking for the following types of local small businesses:

CONROE AREA NEWS

MCSO Mourns Deputy Erika Serrato

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office report says Deputy Erika Serrato was killed early Sunday while helping at a DWI crash scene on I-45 North near The Woodlands Parkway.

Deputies had responded around 2:39 a.m. and were directing traffic when a heavy-duty commercial truck pulling a trailer struck Serrato and two marked patrol vehicles with lights activated. Serrato, 24, had served MCSO for six years. Another deputy had minor injuries. Ashton Jammer, 34, from the first crash, was charged with DWI. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Our deepest condolences. Thank you to our law enforcement for the risks that they take to keep us safe.

Suspect Extradited in Conroe Case

βš–οΈ The Sheriff’s Office update says 65-year-old Leland Fleming has been extradited to Montgomery County from Madison County, Arkansas, after an investigation tied to Cooper Road in Conroe.

Deputies first responded May 8 after a report of indecency with a child, and three adult women later described abuse allegations dating back to the 1990s. Fleming is being held without bond on two counts of indecency with a child. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I don’t like posting stories like this, but it is important to show that law enforcement is hunting these suspects down.

AROUND THE METRO

Houston Funds Fire Cleanup

πŸ”₯Houston officials said the city is helping pay for cleanup after a massive fire at Mammoth Metal Recycling near Lawndale and Kellogg. Mayor John Whitmire said the owner probably could not meet the cleanup duty, so the city authorized funds for the fire department to contract a crew.

The city said contractors expected about two days of work before turning the site over to TCEQ. A demand letter will go to the responsible party, and the site will stay closed until penalties and fees are paid.

East End Honors MSG Joe Ramirez

The MSG Joe E. Ramirez Boulevard sign in east Houston was just unveiled. City leaders and Ramirez’s family gathered Friday as the community welcomed the new name.

Ramirez grew up in Magnolia Park, enlisted at 18, served in Korea, was shot, and spent three years as a prisoner of war. He later returned home and served the community. Houston City Council voted unanimously May 27 to rename Cesar Chavez Boulevard after Ramirez, who received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

The home was built in 1931 by Katharine Mott, one of Houston’s first female homebuilders, and later became a city-designated landmark. The top sale was a newer Memorial-area estate that sold between $9 million and $10 million.
