Indoor Padel Opens in Magnolia
Magnolia has a new indoor padel facility. Sportika Woodlands Indoor Padel opened July 27 at 8626 West Lane. The business has six indoor courts for the fast-growing racket sport.
Players can sign up for professional coaching, lessons and clinics designed for all skill levels. Director Paulina Macias confirmed the opening, giving area residents another indoor option for exercise and competition during the summer heat.
Tamina Water Project Moves Forward
Tamina residents saw a long-awaited water and sewer project reach its first phase. Officials from Shenandoah and Montgomery County joined residents July 30 to mark progress on the public utility connection, which is meant to address years of low pressure, inconsistent supply and septic use.
Construction began in November 2023. The project is funded with $21 million in county federal relief money and $750,000 from Shenandoah. Phase 1 runs from David Memorial Drive east toward Johnson Road.

Houston Nonprofit Supports Grieving Families
A Houston nonprofit helps families facing the pain of unsolved murders. Houston’s Unsolved Homicides began in 2018 after founder John Marsden’s son, Fabian O’Neal Smith, was killed and the case remained unsolved.
The group connects grieving families, shares possible tips with law enforcement and organizes service projects. Its members distribute clothing and supplies, support people experiencing homelessness and hold gatherings focused on healing, remembrance and community support. Leaders say no family should carry grief alone.
White Linen Night Turns 20
White Linen Night marked twenty years in the Heights with a larger but controlled celebration. Organizers capped attendance at 14,000 and charged $20 for tickets, while nearby businesses and venues held their own satellite events.
The event started after Hurricane Katrina and has grown into a major summer tradition. This year, organizers dropped an official VIP area so money could cover basics such as security, trash cans and marketing. The goal was to keep the neighborhood event manageable while supporting local businesses.

BUSINESS UPDATE
Chamber Hosts State Luncheon
Conroe’s chamber will host a luncheon Monday featuring a State of the State program with Texas Senator Brett Ligon. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Montgomery County Community Center in Willis.
The program is expected to cover Ligon’s first months representing Senate District 4. The San Jacinto River Authority is sponsoring the luncheon. Admission is $25 for chamber members and $35 for guests, giving local business leaders a chance to hear an update and connect.
Woodlands Fitness Plans Fall Opening
A Spring fitness and wellness center is planning a grand opening this fall. Woodlands Fitness and Wellness Studio was holding a soft opening in late July and accepting new clients, according to owner and head trainer Brandon Polk.
The gym offers one-on-one personal training, group sessions, fitness classes, recovery equipment and an infrared sauna. Polk said the grand opening is being planned for October or November. The studio is located at 23633 Gosling Road, Unit F, in Spring.
THE SPORTS REPORT
Texans Open Camp to Fans
Texans fans can attend several open training camp practices as the team begins its 25th season. Public sessions are scheduled for August 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 18, with the final date including a joint practice with the Raiders.
Tickets are sold out. Most practices start at 9 a.m., while the August 8 session begins at 6 p.m. Gates open one hour before practice. Fans can park free in the Green Lot with a ticket and may bring one unopened water bottle.
Aggies Need More Interceptions
Texas A&M’s defense needs more takeaways after a strong season in several passing categories. The Aggies reached the College Football Playoff and ranked first nationally in sack percentage, while also finishing among the top 20 in opponent completion rate, yards per pass and passing yards allowed per game.
The major weakness was interceptions. Texas A&M ranked 130th nationally, second from last, in that category. More pressure from players such as Anto Saka could help create rushed throws and give the secondary more chances.
