What do you love about the Conroe Area:

After living in the Desert Southwest for 40 years, it’s nice to live somewhere green. I love how close we are to so many great places to visit within a short drive, like the Gulf, the lake, and too many others to mention. And the people.

How do you stay optimistic:

I have been very blessed throughout my life, in spite of having many setbacks. You just pick yourself up, say a little prayer and continue. There are always new opportunities, if you look hard enough!

What advice would you give a new resident: 

New residents are encouraged to meet people and enjoy all that Conroe and MOCO have to offer.  There is "Always" something to do within 45 minutes of any direction.

What should people know about you: 

I have been happily married to my husband, Bernie, for 45 years and I have two wonderful daughters and their families. I also have a sweet little dog, Remy, who makes me work out every day. I love my work and I am picking up my drawing pencils again after a very long absence.

Do you have a business, project, or public account you’d like to mention: 

I enjoy promoting MOCO and Huntsville history because it is so interesting. And I’m getting ready to narrate a short video about the history of the Montgomery Jail, located on the top two floors of the MOCO Courthouse. This will be the second video. The first one I narrated focused on the history of the MOCO County Courthouse.

After nearly five years in downtown Conroe, Main Street Market will host its final market on Saturday, February 7. What started as a weekly gathering grew into a true community hub and launch point for more than 100 small businesses.

Organizers invite everyone to stop by, support local vendors, and say goodbye in person. It’s a chance to celebrate the people, the memories, and the heart behind this beloved market.

A late-night apartment fire in Conroe left a family of six with nothing, but quick thinking by their 11-year-old daughter helped everyone escape safely just in time.

In the days since, neighbors, local businesses, and strangers have stepped up with donations, furniture, and supplies. A fundraiser is also underway, showing how strong and caring the Conroe community can be when it matters most.

A call for help led Conroe Fire Department to an unusual rescue when a 35-year-old horse was found unable to stand after hours on the ground.

With patience, teamwork, and help from a veterinarian, crews safely lifted the horse to its feet, proving once again that compassion is part of serving the community.

Texas A&M University announced it is ending its women’s and gender studies degree program, citing low enrollment and cost. The program currently serves a small number of majors and minors.

University leaders said six courses were also canceled after a review of more than 5,000 syllabi tied to new rules on how race and gender topics are taught. Students already enrolled will be allowed to complete their degrees over the next several semesters.

A short walk from the Montgomery County Courthouse, the Isaac Conroe Home, built in 1885, offers insight into Conroe’s earliest days, including its time as a post office and temporary courthouse, preserved through restored rooms and historical displays.
