AROUND THE METRO

Dangerous Heat Hits Houston

🌡️ Houston is facing dangerous heat as the area moves from rain back into rough summer conditions. An Extreme Heat Warning was in effect Thursday, followed by a heat advisory running through Saturday night.

Heat index values were expected to climb as high as 106 to 114 degrees. Forecasters warned that Juneteenth events and weekend World Cup activities could feel especially steamy. Storms may develop north of Houston late Friday, with scattered showers possible Saturday.

Cooling Centers Open Across Houston

🧊 Cooling help is available across the Houston area through Reliant’s Beat the Heat program. The program is aimed at seniors, people with disabilities, and families who may not have enough cooling at home.

Houston residents can use multi-service centers and other partner sites to cool off. The program also includes portable air conditioner help and financial assistance for eligible customers who are struggling with electric bills.
