⭐ Attention: Advertising Opportunity for Local Businesses!
You may have noticed that we have been testing advertising. I’ve been using my bookkeeping business as the guinea pig and visits to its website have significantly increased.
We will be selecting a few local small business advertisers to receive a considerable amount of free advertising in multiple issues of one to four of our local newsletters (Conroe, Houston, Pearland, Sugar Land).
The free advertising will be a combination of story-style ads with a photo and internet links, and digital banner-type ads with a couple supporting sentences about your business and internet links. If you have a local small business, let’s have a conversation. You can email us at [email protected].
We are specifically looking for the following types of local small businesses:
Personal Injury Attorney
Insurance Agent / Agency
Junk Removal
HVAC
Landscaping
Financial Advisory or Wealth Management
Real Estate Agency
Dental Group
Primary Care Group
If you are a local business owner and you are interested, email us today!

Conroe Homes Expand Local Support
Compassion United opened two new transitional homes July 13 at its Miracle City campus in Conroe. The additions will raise the nonprofit’s housing capacity from 14 to 32 residents. One home can serve up to 16 men, and the other can serve up to 16 women.
Each home will have a live-in manager. Residents receive support based on their needs, including life-skills training, mental health help, job assistance and sobriety support. Six applicants were ready to move in as the nonprofit awaited final occupancy approval.
Maddux Takes Conroe Court Bench
Conroe’s newly elected municipal judge Tanya Maddux is beginning her term with a focus on fairness, transparency and public trust. Maddux became the first woman elected to the position and was sworn in June 24 after winning the June 13 runoff.
Maddux said she wants residents to understand the court process and feel they are treated with dignity and impartiality. She also hopes to improve communication and explore education and prevention programs, especially for young drivers, while keeping the court fair, consistent and accessible.

AROUND THE METRO
Two Hurt in Cypress Store Shooting
Two men were critically hurt after a shooting inside a Kroger store on Cypresswood Drive in Cypress. Harris County Precinct 4 officials said the shooting grew out of a domestic dispute. Deputies found one wounded man leaving the store and another man inside with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officials said the two men appeared to be the only people involved, and no other injuries were reported. Detectives planned to review store video as the investigation continued. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
Bolivar Seeks Fireworks Record
A Fourth of July fireworks display along Bolivar Peninsula may have set a world record. Organizer David Harris said heavy fireworks covered about 16 miles of coastline and lasted between 90 minutes and two hours.
Harris applied to Guinness World Records for recognition as the world’s longest chain of fireworks. He believes the display surpassed the current 6.8-mile record set in the United Arab Emirates in 2024. Guinness told him it was reviewing details before deciding the next steps in the record process.

BUSINESS UPDATE
Leading Ladies Luncheon Returns
The Greater EMC Chamber will host its Leading Ladies Quarterly Luncheon on July 28 at The Atrium Center in New Caney. The program is open to everyone and includes lunch, a welcome drink, a raffle ticket and an educational program.
Guest speaker Meagan McCoy Jones, president and CEO of McCoy’s Building Supply, will discuss how humility, gratitude and teamwork can build a stronger workplace culture. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and general admission is $50.
Woodlands Lab Doubles Its Space
Locus Fermentation Solutions expanded its Woodlands laboratory to support faster development of biosurfactant-based products. The project brings the company’s mining and ingredients work together with its oil and gas technical operations in one facility.
The expansion doubles the company’s functional laboratory space and adds areas for formulation, mineral processing, ore preparation and other testing. Locus FS said the larger lab should help teams work together more closely, speed customer-focused development and support growth across mining, energy and other industrial markets.
THE SPORTS REPORT
Astros Trade McCullers to Milwaukee
The Astros traded Lance McCullers Jr., Colton Gordon and cash to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league outfielder Jadyn Fielder. McCullers helped Houston win World Series titles in 2017 and 2022, but injuries have limited him in recent seasons.
McCullers was on the injured list with a shoulder problem and had been working through a minor league rehab assignment. Gordon has moved between starting and relief roles. The Brewers plan to use both pitchers as added depth, while Houston receives the young outfielder, who is Prince Fielder’s son.
A&M Hires Track Operations Leader
Texas A&M track and field hired Nate Collins as chief of staff and general manager. Collins will oversee operations, help the program work through the NIL landscape and support recruiting, student-athletes, staff and other program partners.
Collins previously worked in operations at Auburn, USC and Cincinnati. His duties included team travel, home meets, budgets and recruiting visits. Before entering college athletics, he served in the U.S. Navy at Guantanamo Bay and Marine Corps Base Hawaii and earned several military awards.
THANKS!
🏠 That’s it for today, MoCo. Have a great Friday and enjoy the weekend!
