💵 A Brinks security guard was critically wounded Monday morning in a shooting at a Bank of America ATM in Conroe, police said. Officers responded around 8:23 a.m. on North Frazier, gave life-saving aid, and the guard was taken to the hospital.

Police said money boxes taken from the ATM were tracked to a gray Dodge truck on Interstate 45. Officers stopped the truck, and the suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case is still under investigation.

🚇 The Woodlands did not win Elon Musk’s Boring Co. tunnel contest, but local leaders say the work to improve traffic is not slowing down. The township had proposed a tunnel loop around key Town Center spots, including Waterway Square, the Marriott, The Pavilion, and Town Green Park.

Even with the setback, officials say they are still looking at ways to help people move around more easily. That includes parking ideas, microtransit, and other new options to support mobility and quality of life in the future.

🐮 The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo once again proved it is one of Houston’s biggest events. This year, more than 2.6 million people took part, and the rodeo set major records along the way. A Grand Champion steer sold for $1.5 million, junior auction sales passed $35 million, and Cody Johnson drew a record 80,203 fans for a concert-only crowd at NRG Stadium.

Behind the scenes, more than 36,000 volunteers helped make it all happen. The rodeo’s full 2026 financial results are still to come, but past data shows this event brings hundreds of millions of dollars into Houston. From its small start in 1932 to today, the rodeo keeps showing just how much it means to this city.

🍽️ The Greater EMC Chamber is inviting business and community leaders to its April Luncheon on Wednesday, April 1, at The Atrium Center in New Caney. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is presented by The Highlands Texas by Caldwell Communities. The guest speaker will be State Representative Janis Holt.

The chamber says the luncheon will be an afternoon of connection, conversation, and community. Guests can secure a seat or reserve a table now.

⚾ Astros fans got a hopeful sign this week. Jeremy Peña returned to game action after his injury and made an impact right away, hitting a two-run home run in his first game back. He said his finger feels good, but after missing time, he is still working to get back into game shape before the season opener.

The team is taking it day by day as they decide if he will be ready for opening day. His return would be a big boost, as Houston performs much better when he is in the lineup. For now, all eyes are on how he responds in the final workouts before the season begins.

🏈 New Texans running back David Montgomery had high praise for Houston’s defense, calling it the best he has faced. That says a lot, and it also points to the team’s biggest issue. The defense has done its job, but the offense has too often failed to finish games and match that level of play.

That is why this offseason matters so much. Houston has focused on fixing the offense after struggles with running the ball, scoring in the red zone, and protecting the quarterback. Montgomery’s arrival is one more sign that the Texans know what must change if they want to take the next step.
