🏠 Magnolia could see one of its biggest projects yet, but not everyone is on board. A proposed $1 billion development called Magnolia Town Center would bring residential, retail, office, medical, and hospitality space to 200 acres near downtown Magnolia.

Some residents say the project could change the town’s historic character and add pressure on traffic, flooding, infrastructure, and the environment. The project is still in the planning stage, with no city council vote set yet, but opponents are already speaking out as Magnolia continues to grow fast.

📖 Looking for something fun and free during Spring Break? The Montgomery County Memorial Library System is inviting families to stop by for activities happening across its branches.  The library says you can check its online events calendar to see what is planned.

A few options this week:

Visiting the library, volunteering, and even trips to Texas state parks can also count toward minutes in the Texas America250 Reading Challenge, giving kids another reason to keep reading this month.

🐑 Six-year-old Siena Hollis stepped into the arena at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for her first mutton bustin ride. Nearly 60,000 people watched as she climbed onto a sheep wearing teal boots, a color chosen to honor her big sister Virginia, who died last summer during the Central Texas floods.

Siena’s ride lasted only a few seconds before she fell into the dirt. She left the arena in tears but holding her trophy. Later, she surprised her parents with a plan. She wants to buy a sheep and start practicing again. Sometimes courage means getting back up and trying one more time.

🎤 Paul Wall had a huge weekend in Houston. He surprised fans at Lizzo’s RodeoHouston show for “Still Tippin’,” played a sold-out Meow Wolf concert, and came back to the Rodeo stage with Forrest Frank. It was a strong reminder of how deeply his music is tied to the city.

What stands out most is how Paul Wall keeps bringing people together. He honored Houston’s sound, shared the stage with other artists, and kept the crowd with him at every stop. For a hometown star still making big moments, this felt like a weekend worth celebrating.

We are looking for:

🏛️ Future leaders in East Montgomery County got a closer look at how local government works during a recent Pathway to Leadership EMC session. After lunch from Sancho's Tacos and Grill, the class took part in a “Leading Through Change” workshop led by Kimberly DiStefano of Oracle HR Consulting Group.

Participants also heard from Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray and learned about the role of Justice of the Peace Jason Dunn. The day wrapped up with a visit to Woodbranch Village City Hall to see how city government serves residents. The program is partly funded by a grant from the East Montgomery County Improvement District.

💻 Artificial intelligence and cybersecurity were the focus of this month’s Lunch and Learn hosted by the Conroe Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Stephen Mujeye from Sam Houston State University spoke with attendees about how to handle personal and business cybersecurity risks.

The session also explored how people can stay safer in a world where AI technology is changing quickly. Guests enjoyed lunch from McKenzie’s Barbeque and Burgers while learning practical tips they can use to protect themselves and their businesses.

⚾ No. 22 Texas A&M closed its five-game homestand in strong fashion Tuesday night, beating SFA 14-1 in seven innings at Blue Bell Park. The Aggies piled up 12 hits and seven walks, with Blake Binderup leading the way with two home runs and four RBI.

Bear Harrison also homered, while Jake Duer and Nico Partida helped power the offense. On the mound, Gavin Lyons gave A&M a solid start before Ethan Darden picked up the win in relief. Next up, the Aggies head to Norman to open conference play against Oklahoma on Friday.

⚾️ The Astros got a good sign from Josh Hader on Tuesday. After dealing with left biceps inflammation in spring training, the closer threw 15 pitches off the mound and said the fastball, movement, and timing all felt good. For a team getting close to Opening Day, that is a welcome step forward.

Houston still does not know if Hader will be ready for the Opening Day roster, but this update gives the club some hope. After his 2025 season ended early, a healthy Hader could make a big difference in close games as the Astros try to get back to the postseason.
