Baby Safely Surrendered at Fire Station
A baby was safely and anonymously surrendered Monday through the Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 6 in The Woodlands. Firefighters followed established protocols and took the baby to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
The climate-controlled box triggers a silent alarm so firefighters can respond within minutes while protecting the surrendering person’s anonymity. The Township installed the box in April 2025 as a legal, secure option under the Texas Safe Haven Law.
Township Seeks Neighborhood Volunteers
The Woodlands Township is seeking volunteers for open seats on Residential Design Review Committees serving Creekside Park and Indian Springs WCA. Applicants must own property and live in the village where they want to serve.
The committees represent residents while reviewing projects meant to protect neighborhood standards and natural beauty. Applications must arrive at Township Town Hall by 5 p.m. Friday, August 7. The committees plan to make appointments during their regular August meetings.

Lightning Destroys Fort Bend Home
A Fort Bend County home was completely destroyed after officials said lightning sparked a fire during Sunday’s storms. The fire happened near Spanish Forest Lane and Old South Drive in the Pecan Grove area.
The county fire marshal determined the house was a total loss. One firefighter was evaluated and treated for a heat-related injury. Fire officials said no civilians were injured.
Houston Anthem Gets Long-Awaited Video
Z-Ro’s longtime Houston anthem finally received an official music video 21 years after its release. The video arrived on 713 Day and follows the rapper through Missouri City, Fifth Ward, Alief, Third Ward and other parts of Houston.
The production includes Houston landmarks, animated scenes and nighttime skyline shots. It also features appearances from Paul Wall, Slim Thug, J Prince, That Mexican OT, Tobe Nwigwe and other figures from the city’s rap community.

BUSINESS UPDATE
Charolais Steakhouse Opens in Woodlands
Chef Austin Simmons has opened Charolais, a ranch-to-table steakhouse at Hughes Landing in The Woodlands. The restaurant focuses on Texas beef raised through the Chef & Rancher program Simmons created with rancher Larry Ludeke.
Guests can choose cuts and cooking methods on custom steak boards. The roughly 200-seat restaurant includes an open kitchen, patio, bar and two private dining rooms. A neighboring C&R Market sells the same beef and branded apparel to take home.
THE SPORTS REPORT
Astros Eye Help Before Trade Deadline
The Astros enter the All-Star break three games behind the first-place Texas Rangers with 64 games left. MLB.com reports Houston is likely to seek roster help before the August 3 trade deadline, although a blockbuster deal appears unlikely.
General manager Dana Brown identified outfield offense and bullpen depth as major needs. A left-handed-hitting outfielder is the top target because production from Houston’s outfield has struggled. Returning injured pitchers could reduce the need to add more arms.
Aggies Recap 2026 MLB Draft
Eight Texas A&M baseball players were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, including one Aggie in each of the first five rounds. Chris Hacopian led the group as the Washington Nationals’ No. 11 overall pick.
The class marked the first time in program history that five Aggies went within the top five rounds. Texas A&M also had at least eight players drafted in back-to-back years for the first time since 2002 and 2003. Coach Michael Earley has had 16 players selected in two seasons.
